February 2011 Mälarenergi Stadsnät, a utility company, providing services to the municipality of Västerås, Sweden, was one of the first PacketFront customers who implemented an Open Access network on a large scale. Currently, Mälarenergi Stadsnät has more than 50000 end-customers and enterprises connected to the broadband network and offers more than 100 different services from all the leading service providers in Sweden. Mälarenergi Stadsnät has again taken a pioneering role and has started a Gigabit-to-the-Home project, initially connecting 240 households. The project was implemented in the end of 2010 and is up and running. "Users in Västerås can now enjoy the best broadband services in the world with ultra fast download speeds when surfing on the web or watching movies. At the same time, full quality HDTV provides a unique media experience. It is the ultimate broadband service", says Jurgen Persson, Senior Account Manager at PacketFront. "Our objective is to provide customers with the best possible solutions and services. Now that we have opened up to 1000 Mbps in our open metropolitan area networks, we have enabled our partners to offer the customers new and interesting services that require high speed and capacity. With PacketFront's Gigabit Solution, we have implemented cutting edge technology and we are in the forefront among community networks in Sweden" says Gordan Schmidt, Manager Marketing & Sales from Mälarenergi Stadsnät. The Gigabit project will continue in Västerås in 2011.
