Title: Transmode Announces New Optical Access Solution - the Transmode
Service Extender
Transmode
Systems AB, a leading global supplier of Optical Access solutions, today
announced a brand-new platform for the delivery of new, ultra-broadband
services to customers within, and beyond, Metro Optical Networks.
The Transmode Service Extender, or TSE, which will be shown at this year's
Supercomm event in Chicago, is a compact (2RU) Service Extension platform
that Êrepresents the company's strategic objective of addressing the Next-Gen
SDH/SONET market segment whilst leveraging its core strengths in low-cost,
flexible and easy-to-deploy C/DWDM access solutions.
The TSE is the first CPE/Metro Edge product on the market to truly combine
the capacity, transparency and scalability of WDM solutions with the ubiquity,
manageability and interoperability of SDH/SONET, at a price point similar
to today's less-flexible, non-scalable NG-SDH/SONET CPE devices.
The 100% modular design and "open port" concept of the TSE allows up to
24 high-capacity Storage, Ethernet or Video signals to be aggregated on
to single or multiple 2.5Gbps SDH/SONET-framed uplinks. The product utilizes
standards-based Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) and Virtual Concatenation
technologies to ensure interoperability with SDH/SONET core networks,
and is therefore an ideal "partner platform" for today's MSPP/MSTP Metro
Core products. Alternatively, the TSE's integrated, pluggable C/DWDM optical
interfaces allow it to be used directly over dark fibre networks for point-point
or collector ring applications.
The TSE offers full client port flexibility from a single card type, with
different services configurable on a per-port basis. The platform's future-proof
architecture allows new Traffic Aggregation Modules (TAMs) to be introduced
as customer requirements evolve: for example, a low-speed electrical TAM
unit for legacy services such as E1/T1 and DS-3 is planned, together with
a 10Gbps TAM for high-density Gigabit Ethernet service aggregation.
Despite the advanced functionality of the TSE, the platform inherits the
key attributes of the company's System 1100 C/DWDM product - plug-and-play
service activation and low first-in cost - that has led to the system
being deployed by almost 40 Service Provider and Enterprise customers
globally since 2002.
Transmode will be displaying the TSE at its booth at Supercomm (#21429)
from 22-24 June. More information can be obtained by visiting the company's
website (www.transmode.com)
and downloading the product information brochure.
