Title: Transmode Targets Storage Extension Market with High Capacity GFP/VCAT
Data-Centre Interconnect Solution
Transmode
Systems AB, a leading global supplier of Optical Networking solutions,
today marked its participation at the Storage Expo event in London by
announcing a new solution for the delivery of Data Centre Interconnect
Services within, and beyond, Metro Optical Networks.
Following on from the global launch in June of the Transmode Service Extender
platform (TSE), Transmode is targeting the Storage Extension Market as
a key growth application for this product. Transmode's Storage Extender,
which will be shown at this year's Storage Expo event in London on the
13th-14th October, is a compact (2RU) Storage Extension platform with
a set of configuration options to specifically address the market for
Ultra-Broadband Storage Extension over Next-Gen SDH/SONET. The solution
leverages Transmode's core strengths in low-cost, flexible and easy-to-deploy
optical solutions.
Enterprises have a growing need to consolidate data centres and implement
business continuance strategies to reduce cost and safeguard operations
in an increasingly uncertain world. Transmode's Storage Extender expands
the company's success in private/leased C/DWDM based Storage Extension
to the mid-tier end-user market by allowing Service Providers to offer
Storage Extension Services over their Next Gen SDH/SONET networks in a
far more cost effective manner than deploying full MSPP functionality
at the edge or serving individual services over dark fibre access.
The TSE platform uses a fully modular architecture and "open port" concept
to allow up to 24 high-capacity Storage and/or Ethernet signals to be
aggregated on to single or multiple 2.5Gbps SDH/SONET-framed uplinks using
standards compliant Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) and Virtual Concatenation
technologies. Up to 6x 2.5G SONET/SDH channels can be packed onto a single
fibre pair using integrated, pluggable C/DWDM optical interfaces making
it equally suited as a "partner platform" for the latest generation of
MSPP/MSTP Metro Core products or direct data centre interconnection over
dark fibre networks in point-point or ring configurations.
Transmode's "open port" concept offers full client port flexibility from
a single card type, with different services configurable on a per-port
basis. The platform's future-proof architecture allows new Traffic Aggregation
Modules (TAMs) to be introduced as customer requirements evolve - with
10Gbit/S Ethernet and Fibre Channel planned.
Despite the advanced functionality of the TSE and the Storage Extender
application, the platform inherits the key attributes of the company's
System 1100 C/DWDM family - plug-and-play service activation and low first-in
cost - that has led to the system being deployed by almost 50 Service
Provider and Enterprise customers globally since 2002.
Transmode will be displaying the Storage Extender at its booth at Storage
Expo, London (#384) from 13-14 October. More information can be obtained
by visiting the company's website (www.transmode.com)
and downloading the Transmode Service Extender information brochure.

About Transmode Systems: AB Transmode Systems is a leading global
supplier of Smart Solutions for Optical Access. The company pioneered
a new generation of optical transmission system built on CWDM technology,
the System 1100, which redefined the price/performance benchmark for metropolitan
and access networking and is now deployed in Service Provider and Enterprise
networks globally. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Transmode has now broadened
its product portfolio to encompass next-generation edge aggregation solutions
for SDH/SONET and dark fibre networks.
